Top Cause Of Female Hair Loss

by Sarah Rowe

There are a number of different reasons as to why a woman would suffer from hair loss in the same way as a man does. Yet even though some women will begin to lose their hair, they do not lose it to the same extent that a man does. Below we look at one reason which is the cause of female hair loss in women today and which is the most common of all the causes.

Yet even though we still think that hair loss is predominantly a male problem, today quite a few women are likely to suffer from some form of serious hair loss. In fact, according to the American Academy of Dermatology around 30 million women in the United States alone are troubled with hair loss of one sort or another.

For quite a few women the reason that they start losing hair is because of their genetics. All women have hormones in their bodies called androgens, but for a few, these can actually interfere with the way that their hair grows normally. The main hormone in this group, which causes such a problem, is testosterone.

Although all women have this hormone in their bodies, when it is able to connect with a particular enzyme it can then convert easily into Dihydrotestosterone (DHT). This then binds itself to the woman’s hair follicle receptors and starts to interfere with the growth of hair on her body.

Over time, there will be a build up of DHT in the hair follicles, this then will begin to cause them to shrink. This in turn results in the disruption of the natural hair growth patterns and often results in hair loss occurring. This will then result in suffering from female pattern baldness or referred to medically as androgenic alopecia.

Even though the cause of this form of baldness in women is much the same way as it is in men, the pattern of the baldness is different. With women their baldness will be somewhat diffused and generally occurs as a thinning of the hair on top of the scalp. On the other hand men will normally start to lose hair completely from specific areas of the head, namely at the crown or around the temple or at the back.

In addition, the other difference with this particular kind of hair loss in women compared to men is that in men not only is it related to their genetic makeup but also to their age. With women, however this particular form of hair loss can be suffered at any stage of their lives and may well be caused by some other underlying medical condition.

Along with the above, there are other reasons as to what is the cause of female hair loss in women. For some women the cause may be from some kind of medical condition. Whilst the cause for others may have been because a traumatic event has taken place in their lives and considerable stress has been placed on their bodies.

A Delicious Baby Shower Food Planning Guide

Try to imagine a baby shower without the baby shower food. It wouldn’t be nearly as enjoyable, would it? The guests might start to get hungry, thirsty, even grouchy! To be sure, the baby shower food is an essential element for a successful baby shower. It is a tasty touch that everyone enjoys!

With such importance placed on the menu, it would be wise for you to plan your baby shower food carefully. Here are 6 considerations that you should make when planning your baby shower menu:

1. How many people are coming?

If many people are coming (15 or more), it would be a LOT of work to plan an entire meal for everyone. Rather, fingerfood, beverages, and appetizers would be perfect. Sandwiches and soups might be a good idea. But if you only have a small group coming (less than 10), then a full meal might not be too much work. It all depends on how much effort you want to put into the baby shower menu.

2. What time of day is the baby shower?

You want your food and menu to reflect the respective time of day. For example, if you have a baby shower in the afternoon, a light lunch would be more appropriate than breakfast food.

3. What is the baby shower theme?

Making food to match your theme adds an extra touch to your baby shower that really emphasizes your theme, adds to the atmosphere, and impresses everyone who sees it. This is a party! Food should be fun!

4. What type of people are coming to the shower?

When I say “type” I mean: are your guests more the “BBQ chicken and potato salad” type or “Shrimp platter with vinaigrette salad wraps” type? Know your guests and choose the baby shower menu accordingly.

5. How much time do you have?

Most likely, you don’t have much spare time. So, simple is best. Simple doesn’t mean plain or boring, it just means choosing baby shower menu items that are easy and fast to prepare. There are many great recipes for simple yet delicious appetizers, snacks, and beverages. Make as many or as few as you think will satiate your guests.

6. Is anyone going to help you prepare the baby shower food?

If there is one area that you are going to ask help for, I would suggest that this be the one! Assigning several other friends or family members of the expectant mother to prepare food will save you a LOT of time and work. Not that preparing baby shower food is hard, it isn’t. It’s just that you, as the hostess, have so many other things to plan for. So having a few people each bringing one or two baby shower menu items will save you a lot of work. Plus, you won’t have to be running around the day of the shower making sure that the food is ready. You can take comfort in the fact that the party food is taken care of and you can focus on finishing everything else!

There are several types of food that can be served at a baby shower: appetizers, beverages, salads & sandwiches, a full meal, and/or desserts. Your baby shower menu could consist of any combination of those types of baby shower food. A typical baby shower menu includes at least 3 foods and 1 beverage. For example, you could serve chicken salad sandwiches, a vegetable tray with dip, chocolate turtle brownies, and pink baby shower punch. This type of menu would please your guests, and yet wouldn’t be too much work to prepare (and wouldn’t be too expensive either!).

Every baby shower is different, thus, every baby shower menu is different, as well. Just remember the 6 baby shower food planning tips above, and you are sure to plan both a successful and a DELICIOUS baby shower!

3 Delicious Ways to Treat Acne With Food

What’s the best way to get rid of acne: Fill your body with bacteria destroying antibiotics or attempt to boost your body’s anti-inflammatory response? Here’s a hint. According to a groundbreaking review of the causes of acne by a group of seven dermatologists, much of the success of modern acne drugs like retinoids and isotretinoin may result from their anti-inflammatory properties- not necessarily bacterial eradication.

Besides drugs, several foods also impart anti-inflammatory and acne abating properties to the skin. For example, a report in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology found that the nutrient lutein (which is abundant in tomatoes) significantly reduced the inflammatory response and skin swelling resulting from ultraviolet radiation exposure in mice skin.

Like lutein-rich tomatoes, apples confer anti-inflammatory properties to the skin. Apples contain a naturally occurring group of chemicals called flavanoids. Flavanoids possess anti-oxidant qualities that can guard against radical damage in the body. Moreover, research suggests that apples can minimize gastrointestinal inflammation.

While many foods do carry acne preventing traits, the acne drug salicylic acid actually comes from plants. You can glean salicylic acid from foods like oranges, strawberries, raisins, cucumbers and tomatoes. Herbs like cinnamon, curry powder, paprika, oregano and thyme also boast large amounts of salicylic acid.
You can combine these foods in numerous ways to create your own acne preventing dish. Here are three easy to prepare meals to inspire the anti-inflammatory chef in you.

1. Acne Curative Curry Chicken

2 skinless chicken breasts

1 tomato

Marinade

1 tablespoon of olive oil

1 tablespoon crushed garlic

1 tablespoon of curry powder

1 tablespoon of thyme

1 tablespoon of oregano

Pre-heat oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. Cleanse the chicken breasts. Next, smooth the chicken breasts with the olive oil. Rub on the crushed garlic. Finally add the remaining herbs to the chicken and massage them into the chicken breasts.

Place the chicken in a baking pan. Slice the tomato in half and place it into the baking pan to add moisture to the chicken as it cooks. Cover the pan and place into the oven for 30 minutes or until the chicken has completely cooked. Let the chicken cool for ten minutes after removing from the oven before serving the dish.

2. Skin Soothing Salad

1 cup arugula leaves

1 diced cucumber

1 diced tomato

1 tablespoon of raisins

Toss salad ingredients together in a bowl

Salad Dressing

1/3 cup of fresh squeezed orange juice

1/2 teaspoon paprika (hot powder) adjust amount to taste

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 teaspoon of dried rosemary powder

Blend dressing ingredients on high for 30-45 seconds with a hand blender. Drizzle dressing over salad.

3. Anti-Acne Apple Dessert:

2 Sugar-free oatmeal cookies

1 large apple

1 teaspoon of cinnamon

Place the apples on a small plate. Slice the apple into thin pieces. Place the apples slices atop the cookies. Sprinkle cinnamon over the apples.

In short, let food be your acne medicine. Medicine got its start in forests where women and man sought natural cures for the ills of the day. Researchers still comb the Earth to discover drugs for humankind’s modern ailments. You too can take part in this medicinal quest by using food to transform your kitchen into an on-demand acne pharmacy.

Delicious Opportunity in the Food Business - Chocolate

If you’re in the food business, there’s a niche where you can capture buyers from a wide spectrum of the market: chocolate. This has always appealed to gourmets, but now it can rightfully be marketed as a health food as well. Several studies have shown that chocolate consumption offers the following benefits:

–Decreased blood pressure

–Improved circulation

–Lower risk of heart disease

–Lower risk of stroke

–Lowered LDL (bad cholesterol)

–Raised HDL (good cholesterol)

–Defense against destructive free radicals, which trigger cancer and other ailments

–Improved digestion

–Relief from headaches

–Defense against tooth decay

–Stabilized insulin levels

–Elevated mood

Chocolate used to be considered a “sinful indulgence.” We now know that not only is it “okay…occasionally,” it is good for us. (In moderation, of course.) It has truly become the latest hero in the fight against a variety of ailments.

Spanish explorer Hernan Cortes returned from Mexico in the early 1500s with the sacred drink of the Aztecs, made from the roasted seeds of Theobroma cacao. It was flavored with a blend of exotic ingredients, and although Cortes came to like it, the Spanish eventually added sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon for a sweeter drink.

The secret recipe was eventually leaked all over Europe, first appearing in London in the mid-1600s. By 1765, the American colonists were enjoying cocoa; cocoa powder was developed by a Dutch chocolate maker, and his patented process for pressing cocoa butter from the roasted beans led to the production of both instant cocoa and solid chocolate.

Contrary to popular belief, it has little caffeine; its main stimulant is the much milder theobromine. The darker the chocolate, the higher the content of theobromine.

Cacao beans are a rich source of antioxidants; dark chocolate has four times the antioxidant content as tea, and 1 1/2 ounces of it have about the same amount as a glass of red wine. (Dark chocolate has twice the antioxidants of light, and white has none.) It also contains significant amounts of several minerals.

This causes the brain to release endorphins–thus the effect on mood–and the smell alone slows brain waves, inducing a sense of calm.

Quality is key. Health-conscious people should eat high-quality dark chocolate with a 60 to 70% cocoa content. Normal dark chocolate is around 30%; ordinary chocolate has as little as 10 to 20% cocoa content, with a lot of sugar and hydrogenated vegetable fats. It is actually quite low in fat and sugar.

The Swiss eat the most chocolate of anyone–about twice as much as Americans–yet they have among the lowest obesity rates. And according to immunesupport.com, “The residents of an island called Kuna in Panama…rarely develop high blood pressure, although they drink about 5 cups of cocoa each day and include it in many recipes. But if they leave the island, the risk of high blood pressure increases, and studies found it wasn’t related to salt intake or obesity.”

So, are you ready to go into the chocolate business? Team up with a marketing expert who loves it as much as you do, and enjoy the sweet taste of success!

Make Delicious Food With Coffee

Many people love to drink coffee, all of these people will know just how nice it can be to relax with a nice warm cup of coffee. Not quite as many people know that you can actually use coffee in your food too!

Coffee is commonly used as an ingredient in deserts, however there are more uses for coffee! Coffee could quite easily find itself at home in barbeque sauces, meat glazes, and pot roasts. It is a very versatile ingredient.

When it comes to cooking, freshness is absolutely vital. You should ideally grind your own coffee beans, if this isn’t possible then buy freshly ground. If your recipe requests brewed coffee then you should make it just before you are ready for it, make it just as you would a cup of tea that you would drink, but take note of the concentrations. Many recipes require strong coffee, perhaps two times as strong as you would normally drink - such as coffee from an espresso maker.
